As a result Val reduced her handicap down to 7.6. Runner up was Anne Smith who managed a 71 Nett. Third place went to Jennifer Hart who also had a 71 Nett but lost out to Anne on a card playoff but did just enough to beat Di Lamb on a card playoff who also had a 71 Nett.

Thursday 22nd May

This week's Thursday competition was a Yellow tee Stableford with 50 players competing. The winner was Roger Richards. Roger managed to get 40 Points and as a result reduced his handicap to 10.9. Runner up was Tony Shaw who managed 39 Points. Third place was decided by a card playoff between three players all on 38 Points. David Alcock had the best back nine and took third place. Fourth place went to Adam Mannion. Finally, fifth place went to Ian Cairns who also had 38 Points.

Saturday 24th May

This week's Saturday competition was the Club Prize Bogey which is a board competition. The weather was good for the early morning players as heavy rain started from around 1.00pm. This did make playing conditions very difficult on several of the greens but 132 players managed to complete their round. The winner was Ian Cairns who played 14 of his holes in the heavy rain, with a great battling score of 5 up. As a result of this, Ian reduced his handicap down to 5.7. Congratulations Ian. A close runner up was Paul Rigby who had 4 up and did well enough on the back nine to beat John Campbell on a card playoff, with John having to settle for third place. Fourth place went to Alan Loy who managed 3 up and beat 4 other players on a card playoff.

Monday 26th May

Bank Holiday Monday was host to the Holmes Trophy with Mixed Greensomes Stableford being the format. Jim Holmes attends the event to support the competitors and present the trophy to the winners. It was great to see that Jim was well enough to attend this year as he missed last year due to sustaining a broken hip. The winners were husband and wife duo Alan & Sarah Loy who managed a great score of 43 Points. Congratulations go to both Alan & Sarah. Runners up were last year's winners John & Dot Campbell who had a score of 41 Points. Third place went to Graham & Di Scholes who had 40 Points. Fourth place went to John & Rhona Banks who managed 39 Points.

No more faffing! Choose the right trolley bag

Last week we took a look at some fantastic new lightweight carry bags on the market. For those 36-hole days, however, a trolley bag may be a better option. Be careful though, for trolley bags are like referees - you only notice the bad ones. Thankfully, we have some super options in our shop...
