Greetings from Reay Mackay

Sunday 29th June - Charity Am-Am
19 teams entered this year's competition with a shotgun start in the afternoon. Good weather throughout the day ensured everything ran smoothly, and it was a closely contested competition with the top 4 teams all having 84 Points, only separated by a card playoff.

The winners were Walter Winstanley, Judith Brown, Peter Davies & Margaret Davies. Runners up were Mr Vice Captain Steve Collier, Chris Collier, John Campbell & Dot Campbell. Third place went to Paul McGarry, Iain Gourlay, Steve Daniels & Ron Birchall. We would like to thanks all the juniors that helped out to do "buy a drive" with all proceeds going to the Captain's charity. Also to Elaine for her help in the halfway house. Thanks also to Tracy for organising a fantastically well run event. Finally, to Matt and his catering staff for putting on a great 3 course meal.

1st July
This week's ladies competition was Ladies Stableford, which was also linked to the Charitable organisation Age Concern UK. 56 players took part and the three divisional winners were Div 1 Sheena Heseltine with 41 points, Div 2 Barbara Bradley with 38 points and Div 3 Barbara Young with 36 points.

The 9 hole competition winner was Gwyneth Parry

Thursday 3rd July
This week's Thursday competition was a white tee medal with 85 players competing in favourable scoring conditions. The winner was Nick Wild with an amazing 75-11= 64 nett, with the runner-up being Jack Lewis with 71-5=66, who also had a lowest gross score of the day. Also with a nett 66 was Alan Lynch 78-12 who was narrowly beaten on a card playoff. Oliver Woodall was in overall 4th position with 79-12= 67 nett and Russell Harris was 5th with 93-25=68 nett.

Saturday 5th July
The weather conditions on Saturday, whilst not as good as we have enjoyed over the past few weeks was fine. The competition of the weekend was a Better Ball Stroke play and the winners were Clive Aldred and Paul Swift, who came in with a fantastic score of nett 60. The next four groups all scored nett 63. Overall 2nd position was Chris Bate and David Alcock, 3rd was Dave Fisher and Carl Briggs, 4th was Iain Gourlay and John Hill and finally overall 5th was William Harrison and Richard Hamilton.

Sunday 6th July - Club Championship Scratch 36 Hole

29 players took part in this year's Club Championship, which is the largest entry in my time here.

The leader after the morning round was fourteen year old Ben Wallis with a fantastic three under par 68 and leading the trio of Guy Hindle, Gareth Carroll and Mike Haselden by three shots.

Then the excitement continued in the afternoon. The result was closely contested on the back nine with Mike Haselden having a hole in one on the 16th! After the 36 holes there was a tie between Guy Hindle and Ben Wallis on 141.

After 3 playoff holes Guy triumphed for what was his 15th Scratch Prize.

Congratulations Guy.
