Competition news

Thursday 4th October

This week’s competition was a Yellow tee Stableford. Congratulations to the winner Chris Chambers scoring a fantastic score of 44 points. In second place was Graham Hughes scoring a great score of 40 points and in third place scoring 40 points was Phil Williams.

9 Hole Competition

Congratulations to Jim Nulty scoring a great score of 18 points. In second place was Steve Hesketh with a great score of 18 points and in third place with 17 points was Ian Saunders.

Saturday 6th October

This week’s competition was the Isherwood Final and a Subsidiary Medal. Congratulations to the winner of the Isherwood Final, Steve Carroll with a great score of nett 68. In second place with a nett 69 is Ian Heseltine, in third place was David Holt with a good score of nett 71 and in fourth with a nett 72 was Brian Acton.

Congratulations to the winner of the Subsidiary Competition, Richard Brown shooting a nett 69. In second place was Jeremy Bradburn also with a nett 69 and in third place also with nett 69 was Gareth Walter.

Sunday 7th October

Congratulations to Peter Whitehurst on winning the White tee Strokeplay with a nett 69 and in second place also with a nett 71 was Colin Smethurst.

Tuesday 9th October

This week’s Ladies competition was a Team Stableford. Congratulations to the winners with 75 points, Lady Captain, Liz Faulkner and Fiona Goddard. In second place also with 75 points were Fiona Davies, Ann Unsworth and Anne Hewitson and in third place were Anne Smith, Gizelle Stockton and Jill Evans also with 75 points.

The good old days

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers.

Time tunnel

Take Lynx for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its revolutionary Predator II driver way back in 2004. A relatively tiny 380cc clubhead meant the Predator II was possibly one of the most intimidating clubs on the market - which made it even sweeter when you crushed one right down the middle.

Fast-forward to the present day, and Lynx has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of #BB. It features a forgiving 460cc headshape, as well as sliding 3g weights which can be adjusted to help you find your ideal ball flight.

So, whilst it is nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the #BB. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the #BB with as much fondness as the Predator II!

How times have changed

Remember when you used to get ready for a round of golf during winter - you'd put on your vest, followed by a turtleneck, followed by a polo, then a jumper, before finally putting on your jacket. Not only was it a complete pain in terms of trying to stay warm without overheating, but it also made swinging the club near impossible - not a great combination if you wanted to enjoy your 18 holes.

Luckily, we've come a long way since then and we're now able to wear golf-specific garments which are not only comfortable, but also designed to keep your movement as natural as possible. So, instead of donning 5 or 6 layers during your round of golf, all you'll need is three.

Over your polo, we'd recommend wearing a pullover like this ProQuip Merino Lined jumper. Its Italian Merino Wool helps you stay comfortable throughout your whole round, whilst ProQuip's pioneering water repellent feature means you'll be well protected from the cold, wind and rain.
