By the time you read this, Team Europe may already be well on their way to winning the Ryder Cup… again! Who knows, maybe the Americans will claim the trophy for the first time since Valhalla in 2008.
If you're watching and you can separate yourself from the theatre, we recommend trying to learn a thing or two from the pros. One of the things that strikes us during Ryder Cup week is how deadly accurate they are from 120 yards and in. Given the freedom to attack the pins, it can turn into a real birdie fest.
When you're sat there thinking 'How do they do it?' bear us in mind as we can help you make more birdies with your wedges. You might not ever make the Ryder Cup team but we can guarantee we'll make you a better player in the short-game area, so you win more events at the club. Click here to request a short game lesson.

Firstly, I would like to apologise as I made a mistake in last week's newsletter by putting in this week's Ladies Club Final competition result instead of the Ladies Medal LGU Brooch which was played on the 9th September. Therefore I will put in the result from the 9th September this week.
Tuesday 9th September
The ladies competition from two weeks ago was the Ladies Medal LGU Brooch with the format being a medal competition. 39 ladies competed and the winner of Division 1 was Ann Unsworth who had a 72 Nett. Runner up was Margaret Marsden who also had a 72 Nett but lost out on a card playoff the Ann. The winner of Division 2 was by a fantastic six shots was Julia Hesketh who had a 68 Nett. This reduced Julia's handicap down to 21.2. Runner up was Val Floyd who had a 74 Nett. The winner of Division 3 was Ann Alcock with a score of 72 Nett which reduced her handicap down to 31.1. Runner up was Elaine Jenkins who had a score of 73 Nett. The winner of the 9 hole competition was Gay Tole with a score of 18 Stableford Points.
Thursday 18th September
This week's Thursday competition was a Stroke Play played off the White Tees with a total of 82 players competing and there were some fantastic scores posted. The winner, with a brilliant score of 67 Gross 64 Nett was Shaun Bannon and as a result reduced his handicap down to 1.8. This week's Saturday competition was the Fairclough Trophy Round 1 with the second round being played next Saturday. Another day with low scoring and lots of handicap reductions. The winner was Gareth Carroll who posted a 66 Gross 64 Nett to reduce his handicap down to 0.8. A five under gross back nine was enough to finish top of the leaderboard but only on countback! A close runner up was Martin Jenkins who also had a 64 Nett after having a 75 Gross off his 11 handicap. He has now been reduced to 9.6. Third place went to David Wilkinson who managed a 73 Gross 65 Nett to reduce his handicap down to 6.1. Fourth place went to Steve Fathers who had a season's best 71 Gross 65 Nett to get down to 5.1.
